If you are saved, you have trusted what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for you! As Christians, we know we ought to read our bible, pray, give, come to church, and get involved in the different ministries of the church. We are going to look at one of the aspects of the Christian life that we can be much better at, and we are going to let the Bible, the Word of God give light on that aspect. We need to be a witness.
Tonight we are going to talk about being a better witness!
Let’s open our Bibles and turn to 2 Corinthians 5:11-20.
- We ought to witness to other people because it is a command from God!
He has given us the word of reconciliation not so we can keep it for ourselves, but we are commanded to share it with other people around us! Look at verse 18: he hath given us the ministry of reconciliation! That is for every individual who is saved this evening! It is not written only to our pastors, deacons, evangelists and missionaries. It is to every saved individual!
We all have been called into the ministry of reconciliation! It is a command from God! When we refuse to witness, we are not obeying the command the Lord has given us!
Now turn to John 15:26-27.
Brethren, we receive the Holy Spirit when we get saved, and if you walk in the Spirit, you can let him speak through you! People do not need to hear from our flesh, but they need to hear the Holy Spirit speaking through you! You will be amazed when you are filled with the Spirit of God how many opportunities the Lord is given you to be a witness with coworkers, family members, people we encounter on a daily basis! The problem is that either we are not Spirit filled, or we do not make it a priority! It is not that important to us!
Look at 1 John 5:8-10!
It is the witness of God! Let the Holy Spirit speak through you! Let Him get out of you! You can’t do it on your own!
So we need to be a witness for Jesus Christ because it is a command!
2. We need to publish the gospel among all nations!
Mark 13:10 We want people to be able to read the Word of God!
There are many different ways to do it such as giving out the tracts we have, as well as giving New Testaments! Some of the children in our church wear a tee shirt that says Jesus Saves!
I personally do not like social media but we can publish the Word of God on there! Let’s do something productive for the Lord instead of posting all our feelings or emotions out there!
When we went to the markets on Reunion Island every other week, we passed out 1,500 tracts! One of the ladies there who is saved came every single time with us passing out tracts! She was so excited to serve the Lord by publishing His Word! We are talking about someone who got saved two months before we got there! That is someone who understands and believes that we are commanded to be a witness!
So we can be a witness as it is a command from God, but also by publishing His word!
3. We can be a witness by our personal testimony!
Just tell others about your salvation! When it happened, and what happened when you received the Lord Jesus Christ!
This is what Paul did in Acts 26 while he is speaking to King Agrippa! He is telling the king the truth of how he got saved! We should not be ashamed of that! The day of our salvation was by far the best day of each of our lives! Getting married and having children were some of the best days of my life, but the day I trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior will always be by far on top of the list! Tell them about your salvation!
You will be surprised how many people do not know what it means to be saved or born again. Even in the United States of America, some have never heard what Jesus Christ has done for them!
You can be a witness because it is a command from God, you can do it by publishing the Word of God all around you, and you can witness by giving your personal testimony!
4. We can also witness by caring for others!
Look at Jude 22 and 23!
We need to ask God to give us a heart full of compassion for people! Ask the Lord to give you an opportunity to do something for someone you know who is lost!
Do something nice for them such as bringing over a meal, spending time with them, helping them with a project, or asking if you can pray for something for them! You will be amazed what it does to their hearts.
Some people you just need to be a little more direct with and tell them the truth of life without Jesus Christ! The first person who witnessed to me and talked to me about the Lord Jesus Christ was approached that way. Someone in the congregation this evening told him that if He wants to go to Hell, go ahead! It shook him up, and he started coming to church, heard the gospel, got saved, and we know the rest of the story!
We can be a witness because God commands it! We are a witness by publishing God’s Word, by giving our personal testimony, having compassion on other people and then one last point: we can sit down and open the Bible with them.
Remember, the Holy Spirit is leading you in all of these! You are not the one in charge! But when it is time, and you are led by the Holy Spirit, you can open up the Bible and show them how to be saved!
In conclusion, we can be a witness because it is a command from God! We can be a witness by publishing God’s Word, by sharing our personal testimony, showing compassion to other people, and also sitting down with them and opening up the Bible.
Let’s make it a priority to be witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ so more souls can be saved!
Amen!
