Practical Things to Stay out of Trouble
Introduction: Last week we covered a lesson regarding (How to deal with Trouble). We stated that we can deal with trouble by Seeking for God, Trusting in God, Waiting on God, Hoping in God, and Giving it to God.
The things we are covering in this lesson have to do with things that will get us in trouble. Therefore, in order to stay out of trouble, we should consider these things. Without a doubt, trouble will come our way Job 14:1 “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble”.
To Stay out of Trouble we should:
- Keep a Righteous Home- Proverbs 15:6 “In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble”. The means and methods of the wicked getting their income is nothing but trouble. Cheat, lie, steal, rob, embezzle, etc.
-
- Trouble comes by criminal issues, legal issues, etc.
- Proverbs 16:8 “Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right”.
- Psalm 37:16 “A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked”.
- If we keep a righteous home, we may only have little in comparison to the wicked, but it is enough and it doesn’t bring us trouble.
- Keep a Content Life— Proverbs 15:16 “Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith”. We live in a materialistic society that is not content with what we have.
-
- Probers 15:27 “He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live”. (gifts refers to bribes)
- Don’t Envy Sinners- Proverbs 23:17 “Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord al the day long”.
- Beware of Covetousness- Luke 12:15 “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
- Joshua 6:17-19, 7:1, 7:20-21 Achan saw, coveted, took and hid what didn’t belong to him.
- Keep Our Eyes from Wondering– II Samuel 11:2 “he saw a woman washing herself”.
-
- Make a Covenant- Job 31:1 “I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?”
- Ask God to turn your eyes- Psalm 119:37 “Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way”.
- In this instance, David was full of trouble because he didn’t keep his eyes. David lied about the situation, David committed murder of Uriah the Hittite, his baby died, etc.
- Keep Our Mouth with Diligence– Proverbs 21:23 “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles”.
-
- Proverbs 13:3 “He that keepeth his mouth keepeth this life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction”.
- James 3:2-8 “but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison”. The tongue, a small member that can have a disproportionately large effect.
Conclusion: There are many things in the Bible that will keep us out of Trouble if and when we do them, for now, keep a righteous home, a content life, eyes from wondering, and our mouth.
