This sermon will help you in your old age, whether you are old now or whether you are still young.
Ps 71:9, 18 – old people that grow old gracefully…
Maintain a good sense of humor – Prov 17:22. Bro Don Sisk, L. D. Hunter, and my mother are great examples of people who maintain or maintained a good sense of humor throughout their lives. As you grow older, don’t harbor negative thoughts, bitterness, resentment, grudges, or regret. Let all that stuff go. It will eat you from the inside out.
Stay active and engaged – Jos 14:10-11. Caleb said I am “as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me”. Keep active. Do the bodily exercise that profits, 1 Tim 4:8. Minister to others as long as you possibly can.
Eat properly – Prov 23:2 eat to nourish your body not to feed your appetite. Ecc 10:17. Ask the Lord to help you to know what to eat, how much to eat, and when to eat it. And then stick to his direction.
Get plenty of sleep – Ecc 5:12, Ps 3:4-6, Ps 4:8. Learn some good sleep habits. I discuss some of mine in this sermon. Eliminate stress and learn to manage the stress that you can’t eliminate. In the evening, process your emotional stuff early, wind down, drink some chamomile tea, take a little melatonin if you need it, pray, and then get to bed.
Go in the Lord’s strength – Ps 71:16, Phil 4:13. Caleb did, Paul did. Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you”, Matt 11:28-30.
Shew God’s strength to this generation – Ps 71:18. Pass on what God has given you to the next generation who is following you. They need to know how to make it to old age in as good health as their bodies will allow. The earlier you start this routine, the better.
