The Lord Hath Chosen Zion
Psalm 132:13
A lot is going on today regarding protest and war in Israel. In this lesson we are going to look at a driving force behind this conflict from the bible as well as make a spiritual application for saved people living in the Church Age.
Quick look through the Bible at Israel and the Promised Land:
1) The battle for Jerusalem goes back to the beginning of time (Isaiah 14:12-17)
- In the original creation before Genesis 1:2, Lucifer was connected with the earth and had a throne in relation to it.
- He rebelled against God, and God destroyed the original creation (Genesis 1:2 ; 1 Peter 3:6)
- God gave the earth to Adam and mankind in the recreation (Genesis 1:3-2:3)
- Satan then attacked mankind and tempted them to sin. He was trying to get back what he lost.
- God then promised the land (Israel) to Abraham’s seed (Genesis 15:18-21)
- But it is important to note that he had a king (Melchizedek) reigning over Salem (Jerusalem Psalm 76:2) before he gave it to Abraham.
- Eventually God promise to establish David’s seed on his throne forever (2 Samuel 7;12-13).
- Jesus Christ will fulfill this promise but when he came the first time the Jews had him crucified (John 19:14-15).
Up to this point we can clearly see how Satan has been working behind the scenes to take back the land that he lost.
2) What happens during the Tribulation?
- Gentiles will rule over the land (Revelation 11:1-2).
- Satan through the anti-christ will rein over the earth from the temple at Jerusalem (2 Thessalonians 2:4)
- Jesus will destroy the anti-christ and his armies at his 2nd Coming (Revelation 19:11-16) and Satan will be bound in the bottomless pit while Jesus rules the earth as King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 20:1-7).
- At the end of the 1000-year reign of Jesus Christ, Satan will be loosed and he will mount an army and once again try to take back what he lost (Revelation 20:8-10). Then Satan is destroyed by fire and confined to the Lake of Fire for all eternity.
- God creates a New Heaven and a New Earth, and all is as it should be for eternity.
With this in mind we see that Satan uses man and the spirit of disobedience that is with in us to accomplish his goals. It should be no surprise to us what we are seeing in the news today regarding Israel and the war in Israel.
Spiritual Application from the Passage:
Note in the passage that David said he would not rest until the Lord was given the place and a habitation. As saved people in the Church Age we are the habitation of God (1 Corinthians 6:19). So, the question for us is do we give God the place in our lives that he deserves?
