My Peace, Jn 14:27

My Peace

The Lord gave his disciples peace and told them, let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  This was immediately before his crucifixion.  They were going to be severely troubled and horribly afraid.  Yet, Jesus said, “My peace I give unto you”.  There is no peace in the world to compare with his peace.

There are times when your heart is so troubled over a matter that it dominates your prayer life, your Bible reading and your daily fellowship with the Lord.

Here’s how to let not your heart be troubled:

Pray and ask God for help.  You need to pray and pray to sort this out with the Lord.  You need to pray until his peace is certain in your life.  The peace of God is very important here because when you are following him there will be peace and when you aren’t there won’t be peace.  If you pray sufficiently, the Lord will help you by continuing to give you his peace.  His peace is palpable.

Rejoice in the Lord.  Phil 4:4.  The Lord has been so good to you and there are many blessings in your life for which you can thank him.  And as you than him, the trouble you’re going through will diminish in the abundance of his peace that fills you.  These blessings are often overshadowed in the wake of all the discord of the trouble through which you are currently going.  Don’t let any trouble “capsize your boat”.  Rejoicing in the Lord is excellent ballast to keep your “boat upright”.

Keep someone close to you.  You often need a support member or team in your corner when you’re going through something.  No doubt it was easier for David knowing he had Jonathan.  And for Paul knowing he had Silas.  And even when he said, “only Luke is with me”,  he had Luke.  Thank God he was there.  Don’t run off the people you need the most.  And don’t let those who rile you up get too close to you.  They will steal your peace.

Wait on the Lord.  The Lord will work out the circumstances but you must give him time to handle it just right.  And often this takes more time than you want and more patience than you have.  Peace will get you through the trouble even when the trouble doesn’t go away.  Just trust God to sort it all out.  He will.  Peace through the trial is all you need right now.

Conclusion: Let not your heart be troubled. Believe Jesus who said. “My peace I give unto you”.
