Example of a Good Testimony

2 Thessalonians 1:7-12

There is a reference in the passage before us to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and his judgment of that day. But note also that he will be glorified in his saints that that day. Paul says this is the result of someone’s testimony being believed, which yields a great question for us today. Would your testimony hold up in a court of law?

Note the following definition of “testimony” and how it is compared to evidence.

Testimony – A solemn declaration or affirmation made for the purpose of establishing or proving some fact. Such affirmation in judicial proceedings, may be verbal or written, but must be under oath. testimony differs from evidence; testimony is the declaration of a witness, and evidence is the effect of that declaration on the mind, or the degree of light which it affords. [American Dictionary of the English Language, Noah Webster, 1828]

Two things to note from this definition:

1)  The declaration or affirmation made is trying to prove some fact.

• If you were on trial for your faith what would be the first thing you would base your testimony upon.
• Should be the word of the God (Psalm 19:7).
• Could you prove by the word of the Lord that you are a saved person?

2)  Note how evidence differs from a testimony in the definition.

• Would anyone else besides you be able to give testimony to your salvation? Is there any evidence that could be brought forth to shed light on the subject as the definition says? (Hebrews 11:1)

Examples of Testimonies that have stood the test of Time:

1)  Enoch pleased God (Hebrews 11:5-6)

• Things that please God : Escaping temptation ( 7:26) conduct walk (1 Thess 4:1-12)

Having faith (Heb. 11:6) Doing good and communicating (Heb. 13:16)

2)  Moses a faithful servant in all his house (Hebrews 3:2-5)

• The greatest indoctrination of your children will occur in the home (Psalm 132:12)

3)  David a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22)

• For all David’s faults this is God’s testimony of him.
• We must remember it is how you finish the race that matters (Hebrews 9:17)
