Seek Jesus Face
In five different passage of the Bible we are directed to seek the Lord’s face. We are going to discuss these in the order a person might seek him when either first getting saved or when getting off track in sin.
Acknowledge your offence and seek Jesus face, Hos 5:15. God distances himself from us when we are away from him. He brings affliction so we will turn to him. He did this often with Israel. We must admit our offence, that which caused the separation. You won’t “see” him until you acknowledge your offence.
- Turn and face the Lord. See Prov 1, where he wants us to turn at his reproof.
- Hear every word he says.
- Visualize his countenance as he is “speaking to you”.
Seek his face and turn from your wicked ways, 2 Chr 7:14. Not only does the Lord want us to turn to him, he also wants us to turn away from our wicked ways. This way we don’t go back to what we were doing when we got so far away from him.
Addictions and habitual sins can be some of the hardest sins to turn from. It helps if you can “see” how horribly his visage was marred when he died for us. You should also visualize the expression of joy on his face after triumphing over sin and our adversaries. And you should also “behold’ his face of prayer as he now intercedes for us.
Seek Jesus face in prayer, Ps 27:7-9. Dan 9:3-4 I set my face unto the Lord God to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting… and I prayed. This is why your prayer closet is so beneficial. When you are alone with God you can get away from all distractions. It’s easier to commune with him.
Seek his face in thanks and praise, Ps 105:1-4. When we sing to him and thank and praise him, we should be seeking his face. We should forget the things that are now behind us. We shouldn’t stress over the things that are out in front of us. We should turn our faces toward his and give him our undivided attention in love and praise.
Seek his face continually, 1 Chr 16:11. Seek the Lord and his strength. Keep you eyes on the Lord. Keep the Lord ever before you, Andrew Saucier recently preached. Consider the Blue Angels in their Diamond Formation. When properly executed, the pilots’ wings are only eighteen inches apart in this formation. They must continually keep their eyes on the “target”. Seek the Lord’s face with this much concentration.
