Genesis 2:18-25 Eve

Genesis 2:18-25 Eve CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

ANIMALS FORMED AND NAMED

God formed the beasts and fowl from the ground, just like he formed Adam. Adam then named them, but none was a suitable match for him. So, God made “a woman” for him, not another man. Thus, bestiality and homosexuality are perverted, and are confusion and an abomination to God (Lev. 18:22-24; 20:13).

A WOMAN MADE

God made “an help meet for him” to keep Adam from being alone. Thus, his wife was to “help” him, not hinder him (Prov. 14:1; 18:22; 19:14; 21:9; 21:19). As his helper, she was “meet” in the sense that she was “fit” and “suitable” for him; a perfect “match.” Paul explains, “For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man,” 1 Cor. 11:8-9.

THE WOMAN – A TYPE OF THE CHURCH

God caused Adam to sleep, removed one of his ribs, and made Eve out of the rib. The whole process is a perfect picture of the bride of Christ (the church) coming forth from Christ’s own body to become his wife. Notice the similarities.

ADAM’S BRIDE AND THE BRIDE OF CHRIST

Both Come From Death

  • God made Adam to sleep (picture of death – Jn. 11:11-13) to get his bride
  • Christ had to die to get his bride – the church (Eph. 5:25)

Both Husbands Were Pierced

  • God opened Adam’s side and took one of his ribs (Gen. 2:21)
  • Christ’s side was pierced (Jn. 19:34), probably under 5th rib (2 Sam. 2:23)

Both Come from Husband’s Body

  • The woman came from Adam’s body (Gen. 2: 22)
  • The bride comes from Christ’s body (1Cor. 12:12-13; 27)

Both Presented To Husbands

  • The woman was brought to Adam (Gen. 2:22)
  • The church will be presented to Christ (Eph. 5:27; 1 Thes. 4:16-17)

Both Are Virgins

  • The woman was a virgin when she was given to Adam (Gen. 2:22,25)
  • Christ’s bride will be a virgin when she is given to Christ (2 Cor. 11:2)

Both Are Of Husband’s Flesh And Bones

  • The woman was of Adam’s flesh and his bones (Gen. 2:23)
  • We are members of Christ’s flesh and of his bones (Eph. 5:30)

Both One Flesh With Husband

  • The man cleaved to the woman and they became one flesh (Gen. 2:24)
  • Christ is joined unto his wife and they are one flesh (Eph. 5:31)

Both Are Mysteries

  • It is a mystery how God brought forth a woman from Adam’s body
  • The marriage of the church to Christ is a great mystery (Eph. 5:32)
