How to be Remembered (Sunday Night August 9, 2026)

How to be Remembered

Psalm 31:12

To me this verse yields one of the saddest thoughts, to be forgotten as a dead man. The question we must ask ourselves selves is, will anyone know that I was here a hundred years from now. In this sermon we will look at some examples from the word of God regarding how we can be remembered.

How to be remembered:

1)  Do something horrible (Matthew 26:14-16 ; 26:7-50)

  • This is not the way that I would recommend but if will get you remembered.
  • Think about Demas (2 Timothy 4:10) he is still preached to this day as a bad example.
  • We may not have any intention of being remembered as Demas but if we are not careful, we could end up the same way. We must think about Hebrews 9:16-17, which shows us that our testimony is of no real force until we are dead.

2)  Do something for others (Philippians 1:23-25)

  • Here we see Paul saying that doing something for the Philippians is more needful than what he wants.
  • Many have become famous or well-remembered for making their lives all about others. Mother Teresa comes to mind.
  • While doing for others is admirable and can get you remembered there is a better way.

3)  Do something for Jesus (Mark 14:3-9)

  • I love this illustration because of the phrase that Jesus says regarding Mary, “she hath done what she could”.
  • Many times, we think it is the great deeds that will get us remembered, but here we see Mary simply doing what she could for Jesus. She simply gave what see had.
  • God has a book of remembrance (Malachi 3:16) and he is not unrighteous to forget our work and labor of love shown in the name of Jesus (Hebrews 6:10).

The best way to be remembered is to make our lives about others in the name of Jesus and let him work out results of being remembered or not.
