Until I Find a Place for the Lord
(Psalm 132:1-5)
In the above Psalm the focus is on David and his desire to build a house for the Lord. This is shown in 2 Samuel 7:1-6. We know that David was not allowed to build a place for God to dwell but Solomon his son built the Temple. For this sermon we are going to emphasis David’s desire and his willingness to not rest himself until God had a place.
God’s desire to dwell with man:
From the time that God created man, he had a desire to dwell with him. Below we will look at how this worked through the Bible.
Genesis 3:8 (God must have daily walked with Adam in the Garden before his sin)
Exodus 25:8 (The purpose of the Tabernacle was so that God could dwell among Israel)
John 1:1,14 (God dwelled among man in the flesh as Jesus Christ)
1 Corinthians 12;12-13 ; Galatians 3:26-28 (As a result of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection and by being baptized into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit we now dwell with him in the body (Ephesians 2:6).
Ephesians 2:19-22 (Therefore we are said to be a habitation of God through the Spirit)
Jesus must have the preeminence: (Colossians 1:12-23)
With all that God did in sending his son to die for our sins and take our place it is easy to see why God says that he must have the preeminence.
Some places where Jesus Christ must come first in our lives:
1) Our Hearts (Matthew 22:37)
- All issues in life are a matter of heart (Proverbs 4:23)
2) Our Mind (Philippians 2:1-8)
- If Jesus is first in our hearts then our minds will usually follow.
3) Our Actions (1 Corinthians 10:31)
- We stive so hard to put Jesus first in the things that we do, but if we will just get the above to our actions would come so much easier.
