How to Endure (Hebrews 11:27)
We live in a day where most people cannot endure hardly anything and sad to say this includes saved people. In this sermon we are going to look at Moses and how he endured as seeing him who was invisible.
Endure – to last, to continue in the same state without perishing, to remain to abide.
to bear to brook; to suffer without resistance, or without yielding.
to bear with patience; to bear without opposition or sinking under the pressure.
Some things we are told to endure:
1) Hardness (2 Timothy 2:3) 4) Temptations (James 1:12)
2) Afflictions (2 Timothy 4:5) 5) Grief (1 Peter 2:19)
3) Chastening (Hebrews 12:7)
*Remember that we have Jesus for an example (Hebrews 12:2-3)
What is the key to endurance?
Note in our passage from Hebrews 11:27 it was by faith that Moses endured as seeing him that was invisible. But what does it mean by as seeing him that was invisible? When we compare the Exodus and Hebrews account here with Acts 7:21-20 we can get the full picture.
1) This verse connects him to rejection by the Jews (verse 27)
- Did Moses already think that he would deliver Israel (See Acts 7:21-30)
- It appears that he did so he endured 40 years in the desert before God appeared unto him in the burning bush.
2) Moses is given an emblem of his faith (Exodus 3:2)
- Forty years after his first rejection, Moses is shown the burning bush, which is a great picture of endurance.
- Now he has an emblem of his faith and endurance. Our emblem of faith is the word of God which has endured since God had man write it down (Psalm 9:7 ; 1 Peter 1:23-25).
3) Moses’ faith eventually ends in sight (Exodus 33:18-23)
- Moses on the mount is allowed to see the backside of God.
- Our faith will one day end in sight as well, this should give us the desire to endure for the Lord (1 Peter 1:6-9)
