Honest conversation. Conversation is your behavior. Honest is free from fraud or deception, truthful, genuine, real, reputable. Some would say “authentic”.
We need our conversation to be honest:
In the community, 1 Pet 2:11-12. The attitude of the world to the gospel is, generally, negative. The speak against you as evil doers. They’re watching you. When you are honest, your good works turn their attention to God. And people get saved. Missionaries must maintain high integrity and preachers must have a good report without, 1 Tim 3:7.
Paul cast the devil out of the soothsayer and he was beat up and imprisoned because her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone. However, in jail, Paul and Silas prayed and praised God. When the prison doors opened because of the earthquake, they didn’t run. The jailer glorified God by their good works (they weren’t evil doers) and he was saved by their preaching.
In the cottage, 1 Pet 3:1-2. It is not uncommon for a person to be one thing in public and completely different at home. But our conversation must be chaste and honest at home and husbands must honor their wives, 1 Pet 3:7.
A man destroyed his marriage by communicating inappropriately with other women while pretending that he wasn’t. His conversation was dishonest and it ruined his home. A woman destroyed her marriage by pretending to be a holy and godly woman at church, while maintaining an angry and brawling conversation at home.
We must be open and authentic with our spouses. Tell the truth all the time. Be chaste all the time. Honor your wife all the time.
In the church, 1 Pet 3:8-11, Phil 1:27. Stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel. Love as brethren, etc.
Be real, genuine, and authentic. Stay together. Work together. You can get along with anybody if it’s not about you. Keep your minds on the Lord. We are different people with different gifts striving together for the gospel, accomplishing the will of God in our church. Work the mission God has given us.
Conclusion: Honest conversation is real. When you have it in the community you never being reproach to the name of Christ. When you have it at home you never bring reproach to your family. When you have it in the church you never bring reproach to your local church.
