They Forgat God, Ps 106:21 – Sep 30, 2026

Ps 106:21 “They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt”.  This was the condition of Israel throughout their wilderness journey.  God did wondrous works to get them out of Egypt.  But they understood not, v.7; they soon forgat his works, v.13; they despised the pleasant land (Canaan), v.24; they joined themselves unto Baalpeor, v.28; they did not destroy the nations in Canaan, v.34; they served their idols, v.36; etc.

We are no different than they are.  We are “Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love”.  If they forgat God, so can we.  How do we prevent this?

Ps 106:1-5 give us the answer.  If you don’t want to forget God like they forgat God:

Praise the Lord, v.1.  We do this through song and worship.  Wake up in the morning with a hymn on your mind and on your lips.  Go to sleep at night praising the Lord.

Give thanks unto the Lord, v.1.  The reason everyone degenerates into the vile sins of Rom 1:21-32 is that “when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful”.

Utter the mighty acts of God, v.2.  I used to think people were just being cliché when they said, “Better than I deserve”, in reply to the question, “How are you doing”?  But upon more thought I realize that we are, in fact, much better than we deserve.  God has done many mighty acts in our own lives.  And we need not be ashamed to repeat these to others.

Do righteousness at all times, v.3.  Israel lusted, v.14, worshipped idols, v.19, believed not his word, v.24, fornicated, v.28, didn’t destroy the nations, v.34, and were defiled with their own works, v.39.  Doing righteousness keeps the judgments of God before us and deters sin that separates us from God.

Pray unto the Lord, v.4-5.  Keep in constant communication with God.  Paul said, “Pray without ceasing”.  You find a good prayer request in v.4-5 and a solid confession in v.6.

Conclusion: if we will do these five things everyday, we won’t forget God like Israel forgat God.
