How Do You Know It’s Him John 1:43-51 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
3 ways that you can be sure that Jesus Christ is the Son of God & King of Israel
By reading the scriptures and putting your faith in what God said – (v.45) Matthew refers to a Nazarene that was to come spoken of by the prophets (Matt. 2:23). You will not find this prophecy in the Bible because not all prophesies spoken by the prophets were written down (2 Peter1:21). However in v.45, Phillip speaks to Nathanael of this prophecy that was known in the land at that time. There are so many prophecies that are recorded in the Bible (Gen. 22:8, 49:9, Rev. 5:5, Gen. 3:15, Num. 21:9, John 3:14, Num. 24:17, Deut. 15:18, Ex. 12, Is. 7:14, Matt. 1:18, Luke 1:31, 2:11, Micah 5:2, Dan. 9:25-26, Psalm 31, Matt. 1:23, Zech. 9:9) that have been fulfilled by Jesus Christ that the statistical odds against them happening are astronomical and impossible for a mere mortal man to have fulfilled. That alone is reason enough to believe that Jesus Christ is who He said He is.
Here is a sample of the many prophecies in the Bible fulfilled by Jesus Christ: He would be born in Bethlehem, come out of David, called Emmanuel, rejected by the Jews, called out of Egypt, the prophet raised up, cleanse the temple, sold for thirty pieces of silver, betrayed by a friend, the money would be cast to the potter, the disciples would forsake Him, accused by false witnesses, smitten upon the face and spit upon, dumb before His accusers, wounded and bruised, fall under the cross, hands and feet pierced, crucified with thieves, pray for His persecutors, people would shake their heads and ridicule Him, people would be astonished, His garments would be parted and lots cast for His vesture, He would say my “God my God why hast thou forsaken me,” would be given gall and vinegar to drink, friends would stand afar off, bones would not be broken, side would be pierced, heart would be broken, darkness would cover the land, buried in a rich man’s tomb, would be resurrected and ascend, be exalted, would maintain an eternal priesthood, friend would eat bread and turn his heal against Him, would bear the sin of many.
He bore your sins for you (Is. 53:3-6), so are you going to believe on Him?
By personal experience – (v.46) Nathanael had a negative opinion of Jesus Christ because He was from Nazareth which was a town with a poor reputation. However, once He met Jesus and experienced how Christ read Him like a book without having met him he acknowledged Jesus Christ as the Son of God. You must do the same thing because you will not be able to lay the blame for your lack of faith on anyone else come Judgment Day
(Matt.11:21, Phil.3:10). When you get your head in the Bible and faithfully study His words you will begin to have your own experience of fellowship with Jesus Christ and understand the reality of His presence (1 John 4:8-10, 4:19, Psalm 139:1).
By neglect – (v.50-51) When Nathanael acknowledged Jesus Christ as Messiah then Jesus informed Nathanael that in the future he would witness even more evidence of His deity. If you neglect to accept the deity of Jesus Christ now then you will still be forced to acknowledge his deity at the day of judgment when you find yourself sentenced to the Lake of Fire for eternity (Luke 16:27-28, Rev. 1:7).
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The choice is yours, so make the right one and receive Jesus Christ today.
