The Fathers Draws Them John 6:43-47 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

The part of this passage that seems to cause problems for people from time to time is the part that says “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” We are going to look for an explanation from the Bible. There are three verses in this chapter that deal with the Father giving them to Jesus, drawing them or giving them the opportunity to come to Jesus.

Verse 37 “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

Verse 44 “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Verse 65 “And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.”

These scriptures almost look Calvinistic, the idea that some people are predestined for salvation and others aren’t and nothing can change their destinies. But verse 40 says “…every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” The drawing and the giving have to do with the work of God, but still individuals must believe him. The Father draws them, but they need to respond.

There are three things involved in someone getting drawn to the Lord in salvation:

First, the word of God is preached.

In Mark 6:34 Jesus had compassion on them and began to teach them. In Luke 9 he taught concerning the kingdom of God.  Romans 10:14 “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” Acts 8:35“Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.”

Second, they have to hear what is preached.

While the preaching is going on they must hear. It’s possible to sit in church and not hear the preaching, letting your mind wander. Matthew 13:14 “And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:” Mark 4:23 says “If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.”

Third, they have to believe what is preached. (Verse 45)

Many people are waiting for an emotional tug on their heart to know that they are being drawn. But Paul said “behold, now is the day of salvation,” (2 Corinthians 6:2).  So you don’t have to wait until you FEEL the Lord drawing you, you need to recognize that the fact that someone is preaching to you about Jesus and his salvation is a fulfillment of God’s commitment to draw you.

Conclusion: When you think about it, the entire world knows of Jesus. The heavens declare the glory of God (Psalm 19:1). Romans 1:20 says “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen.” Everything around us displays God’s glory. God will truly to be able to declare before all men that they are without excuse.
