The whole blessing of salvation in Jesus Christ begins with loving Jesus Christ because salvation is a matter of the heart and not a matter of the action. This is a very confusing point that people trip on because our first inclination is to believe that we can do something that causes our salvation. But salvation is not a matter of any doing on our part because the doing has already been done for all of us by Jesus Christ (Rom.10:9-10, Acts4:12, Eph. 2:8-9, 1 John3:23).

Religious people do not know if they have salvation. It is merely something that they hope and strive for through their own efforts and works. We must believe on the name of Jesus Christ because no other name can save you. When we do that then we know that we have eternal life (John 14:6, 1 John 5:13).

Jesus said that if you love me, keep my commandments.  We believe on His name and love Him and so we keep His commandments (John 15:17, Rom. 13:9, Gal. 5:14-15, 1 John 4:20).

The benefit of loving Jesus Christ and keeping His commandments is that you have:

The abiding presence of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16, Acts 4:31, John 14:18, Phil 4:6)

The Truth (John 14:17, 1 Cor. 2:10, 2:14)

Eternal Life (John 14:19, 3:16)

Eternal Security (John 14:20, 10:27-30, 5:24, 1 John 3:14)

Fellowship with the Father and His Son (John 14:21-24, 1 John 3:24)
