God is Light, Love and Life 1 John 1:1-5 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
There are three outstanding attributes of God that are clearly seen in the first epistle of John. In this book we find that God is Light, Love and Life.
God is:
Light – 1 Jn 1:5 – his light shows you where you are going – like a lighthouse, his light guides you safely toward the lights of heaven [Rev 4, 21] and away from the darkness of the world [Jn 1:5, 3:19] and the outer darkness of hell [Matt 8:12]. His light also illuminates your path along the way so that you can see how to get there [Ps 119:105]. You will see along the way the right path, who and what to follow, and you will see the wrong path, who and what to avoid.
Love – 1 Jn 4:8, 16 – according to v.9, God’s love to us was manifested in sending Jesus to be our Savior. In v.10 we are the object of his love and we show our greatest appreciation for that love by receiving it. In v.11, we see that once we are the recipient of his love, we are to direct that same love to others. You’ll know the depth of your love for Jesus by how much you love others [2 Cor 8:8].
Life – 1 Jn 5:20 – All life comes from God [Gen 1-2]. When sin came in Gen 3, death also came [Rom 5:12]. But God lives on in spite of death. Thus, when you receive the Lord Jesus Christ, you will live on eternally, as well [1 Jn5:11-12].
Conclusion: The greatest thing you can do when someone offers you a gift is to receive it graciously. The Lord God has offered you the gift of his Son and the greatest thing you can do for yourself and the Lord today is receive him [Jn 1:12].
