What Goes Around Comes Around Prov. 11:17 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
What goes around comes around is a practical truth not a doctrinal truth – Jesus extended more mercy than anyone and yet he was crucified – Paul was merciful yet his testimony reveals how rough his life was – practically speaking, when you extend mercy you can expect to receive a little mercy and when you are cruel you can expect to be treated with cruelty – Matt 5:7; Jas 2:13.
The illustrations of this truth abound.
The man forgiven 10,000 talents was cruel [Matt 18:23-35] and he received cruelty in return – of course, our forgiveness is based upon the forgiveness of Jesus Christ [Eph 4:32] but the practical application of these verses cannot be overlooked.
Haman was cruel [Est 3:8-9; 7:9-10; 9:13-14] and he received cruel treatment in return and so did his sons.
The princes who hated Daniel were cruel and received cruel treatment in return – Dan 6:24.
The Shunammite woman was merciful and received mercy – 2 Ki 4:8-10; 2 Ki 8:1-6.
Ruth was merciful and received mercy – Ruth 1:16; 4:13-15, 21-22 – she became the great grandmother of David.
David was merciful and received mercy – 2 Sam 9:3, 6-7; Acts 13:34.
The verses that summarize this principal are Ps 18:25-26.
