I Will Never Leave Thee Heb.13: 5-6 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Herein lays one of the greatest promises in the entire Bible. The Lord will never leave us or forsake us. In its immediate context we see some implications of this verse that should change our lives. This one statement offers perhaps the greatest solution to some of our worst problems.
The Lord’s abiding presence with us is the solution for:
Covetousness – Heb 13:5 – “let your conversation be without covetousness.” Mortify covetousness because it is idolatry [Col 3:5-7]. We magnify what we want above what we already have in the Lord and it becomes an idol. A man’s life “consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth,” [Lk 12:15]. The truth is there is no greater possession you can have on earth or in heaven than the Lord Jesus Christ [Hymn 470 “Jesus is all the world to me”]. When you have him, you don’t need anything else.
Discontentment – Heb 13:5 – “be content with such things as ye have.” This means that if you don’t have much, be content with little. Solomon said that a dry morsel with quietness is better than a house full of sacrifices with strife. If you have a lot, be content with that. Paul said, “I know how to abound” and “ in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Paul said, “godliness with contentment is great gain,” [1 Tim 6:6]. When you have Jesus you have no reason to be discontent with anything. He gives you himself and just what you need.
Loneliness – Heb 13:5 – “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.” This great promise shows you that you will never be alone. Today there are people that go through something called separation anxiety. They “freak” when they are left alone. This anxiety gives them the excuse to get into all kinds of wickedness to help them “cope” with their loneliness. Listen, when you have Jesus you are never alone [Hymn 281, “Never alone”]. Jesus is with you all the time and in every circumstance.
Ineptitude – Heb 13:6 – “the Lord is my helper.” No matter what you have to do or what the Lord gives you to do, he is there to help you. You can be sure that there is no task too great for you if the Lord is the one that has given it to you to do. He will help you all the way. As a matter of fact, the more reliant you are upon the Lord, the better you are going to be. He said, “without me ye can do nothing.”
Fear – Heb 13:6 – “and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” We’ve said many times before that the world is out to scare you so that it can control you and every aspect of your life. Look inside and realize who is inside of you right now. Do you know of anything that is too hard for the Lord? Then what in the world are you worried about? When you worry, you are mocking God. He gives you peace that passeth all understanding and he is with you all the time.
Conclusion: I will never leave thee nor forsake thee is one of the greatest promises in the Bible. Your heavenly Father is with you. Magnify him and realize that with him you are fine all the time and in every circumstance of life.
