The Fear of the Lord Prov. 14: 26 -27 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Strong confidence – Prov 14:26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. If you fear God you will not fear men – and when you don’t fear men there is absolutely nothing they can do to you – they can kill you but what’s that – you wind up in heaven – Ps 56 – and when they see that you are fearless that puts God in control of the situation and them at a great disadvantage – Gideon, David against Goliath, Lot.
Fountain of life – Prov 14:27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. Cornelius feared God and found Jesus – and abundance of life.
Lengthen days – Prov 10:27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. Eternal life in the fountain of life, but this is the long full life that God intended down here – keeps you from the dissipated life of sin.
Knowledge – Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. If you want to know anything worth knowing, fear God – in school there is no fear of God so the knowledge they attain will only do them good down here but never in heaven.
Wisdom – Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. The Fear of the Lord will do more to keep you in line with God than anything else you can think of – a man that fears God will find out what God thinks about a thing before he forms his opinion or makes his own decisions and when he knows what God thinks and follows that in understanding, he’s a wise man – professors want you to fear their scholarship – but many of them are fools.
Hate evil – Prov 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. There are a lot of things that appeal to the lust of the flesh – but the fear of the Lord causes you to hate those things so that you don’t get caught up in them – you end up hating the things that God hates – the church has less fear thus more worldliness today.
