Rewarding Evil for Good Prov. 17:13 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
This proverb about rewarding evil for good sounds a lot like “what goes around comes around” – but its more than that – it is a proverb about someone doing good for you and then in response you do them evil – like when a mother says to her wayward child “after all I have done for you and this is the thanks I get” – we all know what that feels like – let’s keep the discussion on higher ground and not get too personal – lets look at some Biblical examples of the application of this verse and then make an application to the Lord.
Shimei – 2 Sam 16:5-10; 19:16, 20, 21, 23; 1 Ki 2:8-9, 37-38, 40-44, 46
Jeroboam – 1 Ki 11:37-39; 12:26-28; 13:33-34; 14:7-11
Pharisees – Matt 21:9-15; Matt 24:2
Judas Iscariot – Matt 10:7-8; Ps 109:5-15
The Lord has done you good at the cross (greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends) – he has rewarded you with good – when you reject him you will be rewarded with evil (Matt 23:33) – Heb 10:26-27 – just look what happened to Israel in 1 Thes 2:16 – you should recognize the good Jesus has done for you – the goodness of the Lord leadeth thee to repentance – so repent and turn to him – and be rewarded with good.
