The Winds of Everyday Life

The Winds of Everyday Life

Acts 27

Have you ever flown a kite? The wind is probably the most important part of the whole exercise. Without the wind, your kite will not fly. Once that kite is in the air it seems to really fight against the string. It acts as if, the string is really holding it back and that it could really take off, if it could just break free. We also know that when it does break free it soars to the ground without the control of the string. Another important part is to steer it away from trees and power lines that will end the flight abruptly.

We are very much like kites. When you got saved, you became under supervision of God. He is now holding your string. He is trying to get you to fly. You tend to fight against that control and really believe that without it, you could really soar. That string is a type of “will”. If you commit to use God’s string (will) then he can steer you away from the dangers in life. If you commit to use your own string (will), you will be contending with God and your flight is unsure.

Either way you must have the wind. Your everyday life is a type of the wind. No matter who has the control of you the wind will blow. The account of Paul in Acts 27 shows us several things about those winds.

Acts 27:7 They will Prevent you, because they are Contrary.
7 And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone;

[Eph.4:14] Don’t be tossed around

[Rom.16:17] False Doctrine is Contrary

[Gal.5:17] Flesh is contrary to the Spirit

[Mk.4:37-41] Remember God controls the wind also!

Acts 27:13 They will Play Tricks on you, because they are Confusing.
13 And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.             You need God’s wisdom, Godly Counsel, God’s Truth, and as you grow you will gain Experience [Rom.5:1-5]

Acts 27:14 They will Pull you Down, because they are Caustic.
14 But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon. Turbulent times may come, Hurtful things, Times of Loss, Rejection, Things that will  blow you out of the Sky, get back up [Prov.24:16] You are still connected to the “String”.

Acts 27:15 They will Put you Out, because they are Critical.
15 And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.   They can put you out of the race [1Cor.9:22-27] Physically, Emotionally and Spiritually.

Acts 27:40 They can Push you UP, if you get Committed.
40 And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore. Psalm 37:5
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Commit your ways to the Lord, and let him guide you through the winds of everyday life.
