A Citizen of Our Holy Nation, 1 Pet 2:9 – July 5, 2026

A Citizen of Our Holy Nation

This weekend we saw lots of patriotism, fireworks and drone shows celebrating the 250th birthday of the USA. Despite it’s faults, it’s our country, and I’d rather be here.

Would you say that a person who prays for those in authority is a good citizen of our country?  We should pray 1 Tim 2:1-3.  In Ps 122:6 David wrote, Pray for the peace of Jerusalem… You see all that Jerusalem has been through and will go through.  Still we are to pray.

In Jer 29:7 God said, “And seek the peace of the city wither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace”.  The number one thing we can do for our country is pray.

Would you consider a person who pays his taxes a good citizen?  Then pay your taxes.  Would you consider good citizenship joining and/or supporting our military?  Then be a supporter of those who wear or have worn the uniform.  Would you consider a law-abiding person a good citizen?  Then be a law-abiding citizen.  Would you consider a morally good person to be a good citizen? Then maintain high morals and ethics.

Do you think a good citizen should be a “proud’ American?  A proud American is a patriotic sentiment expressing love, gratitude, and appreciation for the USA.  It signifies a strong connection to the nation’s founding principles, and honors the generations who have protected our freedoms.  Then be a “proud” American.

But you must remember that when you are saved, you are now a citizen of another nation, an holy nation.  We have dual citizenship.  We are a citizen of the USA and of the Kingdom of God.  Be a good citizen of our holy nation!

As you should pray for the USA, so a good citizen should pray for of our holy nation.

As you should pay your taxes, so you should give to support the work of our holy nation.

As you should support our military, so you should be a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

As you should maintain high morals and ethics, so a good citizen of our holy nation should live by God’s righteousness

And as you should be a “proud” American, so you should be a “proud” citizen of our holy nation.  Don’t ever be ashamed to let it be known that you are a citizen of heaven, saved by the grace of God and the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

Like many have paid with their blood for the USA, so Jesus Christ paid with his own blood for our holy nation.  Honor him.
