Prov 14:25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.
Prov 25:13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
We are to be a true witness to souls without Christ and we are to be a faithful messenger for Christ who died for them.
A true witness delivereth souls. Certainly, he tells the truth. We aren’t a deceitful witness; neither are we a false witness. But according to this verse, we must witness with the aim of, not only telling the truth but, delivering souls.
Like fishing, we don’t don’t just go out to fish. We go out to catch fish. I have fished all day on occasion and come back with nothing but leftover bait. Fishermen go fishing with the intention of catching some fish. And they don’t want to leave the water until they have, at least, a few fish in the boat.
Similarly, we need to witness with the intention of seeing souls delivered from hell. A true witness delivereth souls. We realize that the Holy Spirit does the saving and that Jesus Christ did the work necessary to deliver them and that they must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, we have to be persistent enough to “catch” some men.
Jesus Christ has the message that each lost soul needs to hear. We need to be faithful to deliver the message to those for whom Christ died. When we do, we refresh the Lord’s soul, in the same way that the cold of snow would refresh harvesters in the time of harvest.
Let’s make a concerted effort to be a faithful messenger for the Lord and to prayerfully consider to whom we need to be a true witness of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. There are certainly more souls that still have yet to be saved.
