Bevans Welder – Why We’re Not Catching Men

The reasons we’re not catching men can be found in Peter’s actions in Lk 5:1-11.

We’re Complacent, v.1.

We’re satisfied with the crowd that we already have coming to hear the word of God.

We’re Distracted, v.2.

We’re too busy fussing with the administrative details, like the fishermen washing their nets.

We’re Hopeless, v.5.

We have already tried catching men, and we came up empty.

We’re Half-hearted, v.5.

Like Peter, we’ll let down A Net because we have been commanded to, but we’re not expecting any results.

We’re Self-willed, v.11.

In Matt 4:18-22, they had previously been commanded to follow Jesus and had left their nets. But they had returned to what they were used to doing.

The Remedy.

Get in the boat with Jesus, v.3. Thrust out a little, v.3. Launch out into the deep, v.4. And go when Jesus says, where he says, and how he says. You’ll catch some men.
