Blessed is the Chastened Man
Ps 94:12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law.
The blessing is that, when God chastens us:
We learn best, Ps 94:2. We learn what we are supposed to do and not do from the words of God. But, instruction in the words of God that results in changes in your life can often be hard to implement. Therefore, sometimes we need to be chastened in order to “get it”. The Lord will chasten us when we don’t obey his words.
But when God chastens you, then you’re motivated to take his instruction seriously and do it. There are consequences to disobedience.
We are assured God loves us, Heb 12:6. See Prov 13:24. God wouldn’t bother to chasten us if he didn’t love us. Heb 12:7 God dealeth with us as with sons. And a man that loves his son will chasten him to correct him. WHen you are chastened, just remember how much God’s love is apparent in this exercise.
We profit in holiness, Heb 12:10. Through God’s chastening, we become partakers of his holiness. He makes us more like him. The new man is created in righteousness and true holiness.
We yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness, Heb 12:11. When the fruit of righteousness becomes evident in our lives, we enjoy peace in our relationship with the Lord. We also enjoy peace in our lives, personally, through righteousness because our conscience is not troubled by our disobedience. Righteousness stops the turmoil of sin and the consequences of doing wrong when we keep trying to get our own way.
Conclusion: Heb 12:5 despise not the chastening of the Lord. Don’t faint when you are rebuked of him. Heb 12:7 endure chastening.
