Blessed Is The Strong Man, Ps 84:5 – May 6, 2026

Blessed is the Strong Man

Ps 84:5, Blessed is the man …

Whose Strength is in The Lord.  Ps 84:5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them (“them” are those who dwell in thy house, Ps 84:4).  We talked about them last week.

The blessing is that you have his strength and not your own to handle a task or to go through an event or a trial.  In Ps 71:16 the Psalmist wrote, “I will go in the strength of the Lord God”.  Certainly his strength is much greater than ours. And, thus, blessed is the strong man.

We are strong when we are strengthened…

By his grace, 2 Cor 12:7-10.  We are strong in his grace when we are weak in our own strength.  The Lord said to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness”.  When weakened by conditions.

Paul was weakened in infirmities, reproaches, necessities, persecutions, and distresses.  This is when the grace of God kicked in for him.  And the same is true for us. In times of distress  look for the grace of God to strengthen you.

By his wisdom, Prov 24:5.  Ecc 7:19 says, “Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city”.  A fortified city is strong and mighty men are strong.  Wisdom strengthens you more than 10 of these men in a strong city.  Consider the wisdom of Jehoshaphat and Hezekiah who survived the attacks of superior armies by inquiring of the Lord rather than by engaging in battle.

The Bible is full of God’s wisdom.  And when you are filled with his knowledge and wisdom, you are strong.  Often, we have to contend with men who oppose the work of God.  Wisdom shows you how to navigate through this opposition to continue the work of God.  When weakened by opponents.

By his might, Eph 6:10.  Jesus Christ is stronger than all the forces of evil that oppose God’s people and work.  The devil was never able to stop Jesus or Paul.  They withstood every attack of the devil to stop the work of God.

Likewise, we can withstand when we will stand in his armor and in the power of his might.  When weakened by spiritual forces.

By his Son, Phil 4:13.  I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.  Paul, in this context, was writing about being content in whatever state he was in.  Consider 2 Cor 11:23-28.

Likewise, Jesus strengthens us to accomplish his will and desire no matter the circumstances accompanying our labor.  When weakened by our own discontentment and circumstances.

Conclusion: Blessed is the strong man who is strong because of the strength of the Lord.
