Blessed Is The Wise Man, Prov 8:34 – May 20, 2026

Prov 8:34, “Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors”.  So, blessed is the wise man.

Wisdom is speaking here.  A man that “hears” wisdom, watches daily at her gates, and waits at the posts of her doors is a man that is going to “get wisdom”, Prov 4:7.  See Prov 8:17.  And when he gets it, he’s blessed.

There are so many ways that wisdom blesses men that it would be impossible to preach about them all in one Wednesday night service.  But we’ll discuss a few of them so you will know how blessed is the wise man, how blessed you are when you are wise.

The blessing is that when you get wisdom:

You Have Wisdom – Prov 8:17, “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me”.  Prov 9:12, “If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself”.  You must want wisdom for yourself, like you would diet or workout for your own benefit.  It’s important to you even if it’s not important to others. Ecc 10:10, “wisdom is profitable to direct”.  And it will put an end to your foolishness, Ecc 10:12-14.

You Have Happiness – Prov 3:13, “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom”.  Prov 3:17-19 Her ways are pleasantness, and all her paths are peace… happy is everyone that retaineth her.

You Have Riches – Prov 3:14-16.  You are rich in riches and honour and you’re rich in length of days. Prov 8:18-21 shows you that you get durable riches, you inherit substance, and wisdom will fill your treasures. Not with temporal wealth, like prosperity preachers preach.  So, Prov 8:10-11 receive the instruction and knowledge that give wisdom.  What wisdom gives you is better than gold and rubies and all the things that may be desired.

You Have Life – Prov 3:16, “length of days is in her right hand”.  Prov 8:35, “whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the Lord”.  Ecc 7:12, “Wisdom giveth life to them that have it”.  Add this to Jn 10:10.  I think many Christians miss the abundant life because of a lack of wisdom.

You Have Safety – Prov 3:21-26.  Keep sound wisdom… then shalt thou walk in they way safely.

Conclusion: these are just some of the ways that blessed is the wise man.
