Blessings of Obedience
An obedient person is a blessed person, Lk 11:28. Jesus said, “Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it”. Jas 1:25 says, “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed”.
God made the covenant with Abraham to multiply his seed, possess the gate of his enemies, and bless all the nations in him because Abraham obeyed God, Gen 22:16-18, Gen 26:3-5. He commanded the children of Israel to do the same thing, Ex 23:22, Deut 11:27-28, Jer 7:23, Dan 9:10-11. Saul didn’t obey the voice of the Lord, 1 Sam 15:19-24, and lost the kingdom and his life.
Here are the blessings of obedience:
An obedient person enters into a deep loving relationship with the Lord God, Jn 14:23, Jn 14:21. See Lk 8:21. He loves God and keeps his commandments and God loves him and he knows it.
An obedient person has a comforting, joyous relationship with the Spirit of God, Jn 14:15-17, Acts 5:32. When the world turns against you and persecutes you for your faith, you’re comforted and you rejoice, Acts 5:41, and you keep witnessing for Jesus, Acts 5:32, 42.
An obedient person is made free from sin, Rom 6:16-18. Not free from temptation. But free from being held by the cords of your sins, Prov 5:22.
An obedient person is founded on a rock and the storms of life can’t shake him, Lk 6:47-48. He has an unshakable faith. The storms of life will affect every living person in some way. And when you’re obedient, you won’t collapse.
An obedient person has complete assurance of his salvation, 1 Jn 2:3. 1 Jn 3:23. When you obey the Lord you don’t doubt your salvation.
Conclusion: The first most important command you should obey is the command to believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Pet 4:17 says, “what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel”? And 2 Thes 1:7-8 answers, “…the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ”.
If you aren’t saved, obey God and be saved today. If you are saved but you have been disobedient, start obeying God and enjoying the blessings of obedience.
