Capital Punishment Prov. 28:17 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
This lesson is about capital punishment.
Here is the Bible’s take on capital punishment:
Ex 20:13 says thou shalt not kill.
Gen 9:5-6 says if a man is murdered his death is to be avenged by his brother.
Num 35:13-25 says that if a man kills another man, he can flee to the city of refuge.
Num 35:30-34 says that if he is found guilty then he is to be executed – the judge should take no satisfaction to spare him – refusing to slay him pollutes the land and defiles it.
There should be no stay of execution – Prov 28:17 says the murderer shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him. Judas literally wound up in the pit – Acts 1:25; Rev 17:8 – where he ended up was in answer to a prayer in Ps 109:6-8 – God wasn’t going to stop him.
Rev 21:8 says that murderers have their part in the lake of fire.
Rom 1:29, 32 says that the murderer is worthy of death. So capital punishment is still valid in the New Testament. In Rom 13:1-4 we find capital punishment as an ordinance of God. As a mater of fact, Paul would have submitted to it if he had been convicted, Acts 25:11.
The only hope is salvation in Jesus Christ – you must be washed in his blood – Paul was a murderer whose life was spared – he received mercy similar to that which Moses and David received.
