Characteristics of Disciples Acts 11:26 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Today we are going to look in the Bible to see some of the characteristics of disciples. One of the reasons is that there are those who call themselves disciples but they aren’t, in truth, and this lesson will hopefully help them to become true disciples of Christ. Another reason is to help you become a better disciple of Christ if you truly are one already.
Disciples are Christians – Acts 11:26 – there are men and women who claim to be disciples of Christ but that is impossible if they are not saved.
Disciples keep the words of God – Matt 15:2 – we are to keep his words rather than man’s traditions.
Disciples love one another – Jn 13:35 – by loving one another others know that we are his disciples.
Disciples deny themselves – Mk 8:34-38 – too many people today, who claim to be disciples of Christ, have followed him merely for the selfish benefits of being his child rather than for the self-denial that comes from discipleship.
Disciples enter the harvest – Matt 9:37-10:1 – there is still much work to be done in the harvest and there are still many laborers needed – the laborers are few.
Disciples bear fruit – Jn 15:8 – bearing much fruit is the will of God in the life of a disciple.
Disciples are not above their Master – Matt 10:24-25 – too many so-called disciples are bringing more glory to themselves than they are to God. Disciples bear reproach; they don’t try to win popularity contests in the world.
Conclusion: Now this is what describes a disciple of Christ – how do compare to this list?
