Children Ministry Mk 10:14

Children’s ministries are vital to the ministry of a local church.  Men and women who work with children are a blessing to the Lord and to the church.  Sometimes youth workers get the idea that they are just glorified babysitters or that they are there to keep the kids entertained while mom and dad go to Sunday school or church.  That’s certainly not the case here.  You should know just how valuable you are to the work of the Lord.  Your work with children is:

Primary – Mk 10:14 Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.  I have heard some men remark that seeing a grown man get saved was a bigger deal than seeing a child get saved.  While I understand that a grown man can be harder to win than a child, his soul is not more important than that child’s soul.  And Jesus made that perfectly clear in Mk 10:14.

Selfless – 1 Thes 2:7-8 we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children: so being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because you were dear unto us.” There is much more to teaching children than just getting the lesson across.  They not only get your lesson, they get you.

Fatherly – 1 Cor 4:15 “yet hath ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.”  1 Thes 2:11 says, “… we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children.”  The relationships you build with these children today will be like family years from now.  Therefore look at what you’re doing for these children as a very long term investment.  You are leaving them an iniheritance.

  • Prov 19:22 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers – we built this church building as a “house” and our children will be able to enjoy the fruit of our labor on their behalf without having to bear the cost. It’s an inheritance to them.  Let’s keep it pure [unlike the Jews did with the temple] and sanctified for the Lord’s work so that they can have a heritage of faithfulness to the Lord and his word.  Prov 19:22 says House and RICHES.  Wisdom says in Prov 8:18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.  When we stay true to the words of God and leave them to our children we leave them the greatest riches on earth [better than silver and gold].
  • Prov 13:22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children – look even further down the road than the next generation. These children should be given the best so that when their children are born they will lead them the same way that they have been led.

Conclusion: as you give yourself to this most important ministry and to these most important souls, remember that you are investing in their future for generations to come.
