They are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection, Lk 20:36.  You are not a child of God until you are a child of the resurrection.

Because of the curse, everything here dies.  Men die [Rom 5:12], plants die, trees die, animals die, even stars die.  We will need a new heaven and new earth to eliminate the effects of the curse in this universe.  That’s why Jesus had to rise from the dead.

Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life, Jn 11:25-26.  If you believe this then you will never die and if your body dies it will live again.

When you were saved you believed that God hath raised him from the dead [Rom 10:9-10].  According to Col 2:11-12, Ye are risen with him because you have been baptized by the Holy Spirit into his body.  Therefore, from Col 1:18 we see that he is the head of the body, the firstborn from the dead.

The result of his resurrection and our salvation is that we have been delivered from wrath [1 Thes 1:10] and when he returns we’ll get a brand new body [1 Thes 4:16-18].  But those two things may still be a long way off.

So, what do we do in the meantime?

We walk in newness of life – Rom 6:4 – we are no longer to live our old life in anyway.  Forget trying to fit God into your plans.  You start living according to his plans.  You are a new creature [2 Cor 5:17] with a new life.  You are in the kingdom of God which has nothing to do with this world, at all.

Yield to God – Rom 6:13 – your old man wants to pull you back into the life of sin from which God saved you. God wants you to live yielded to him so that he can keep sin from having dominion over you.

Wake up – Eph 5:14-17 – wake up and realize that you are walking in newness of life.  Therefore,

  • Walk circumspectly – Eph 5:15 – you are walking through a mine field in this world
  • Redeem the time – Eph 5:16 – you must make up for the time spent serving your lusts
  • Understand and do his will – Eph 5:17 – God has a plan for your life; find it and do it.

Conclusion: if you have not believed in him, then trust him now.  If you have, then wake up and walk in the newness of life.
