Confessing Your Sins Prov. 28:13 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
The beauty of confessing your sins is this – confessing sins helps you to recognize that:
You still sin – Rom 7:14-18; Col2:11 (though your soul has been cut away from the body of sins) – confession helps you to keep the flesh in check.
God sees them – Prov 15:3, Heb 4:13 – so tell them to God who knows not a priest who doesn’t know – confession keeps you sober and vigilant when you know God sees and you have to face him with it.
You can’t cover them – we like to pretend they aren’t there (1 Jn 1:10) – but they are and they’re coming out.
- Num 32:23 says, “Be sure your sin will find you out.”
- Gal 6:7-8 tells us to be not deceived – you’re going to reap what you sow to the flesh.
- Matt 15:18-19 says that whatever is in the heart is spoken out of the mouth.
- 2 Cor 5:10 – whatever is done in the body is going to be judged and the Judgment Seat of Christ.
They need to be cleansed – your soul was cleansed as a result of what Christ did at Calvary but your body and spirit need to be cleansed continually – 2 Cor 7:1 – the blood of Jesus is there for that purpose Heb 9:14, 1 Jn 1:7 – confession is what cleanses them – 1 Jn 1:9.
Once cleansed your sins need to be forsaken – Ps 51:2-10 – David never went back and committed adultery again – instead he was granted the sure mercies of David.
