Conformed to the Image of His Son Rom 8:29 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Once you are saved by God, you are predestinated to be conformed to the image of his Son. From the time that you get saved until the time that you die or the Lord comes to take us home, the Lord works continuously to conform you to the image of Jesus. To be fashioned like Jesus is your final destination [Phil 3:21; 1 Jn 3:1-2]. And the Lord doesn’t wait till you die to do this work; he goes to work on you immediately.
In order to be conformed to the image of his Son, you must yield to the Lord’s work in your life. He is going to be working on your:
Heart – Col 3:1-2; Matt 22:37; Jn 13:34-35; Rom 5:5 – you came to the Lord loving yourself and perhaps there were a few family members and close friends that you loved the best way you knew how. But what he wants to do is put his love in you [1 Cor 13:1-8] and then direct that love toward the Father, his words, his children and those for whom Jesus died.
Mind – 1 Cor 2:16; Phil 2:5; Rom 12:2; Eph 4:23; Phil 4:8 – you come to him with a carnal mind and with fleshy desires in your mind. He must build a spiritual mind in you so that over time you will be thinking like him and not like your old self.
Attitude – 1 Thes 5:18; Heb 13:5; Phil 2:14; 1 Pet 5:5 – you came to the Lord as a brat. But the Lord doesn’t want you to remain a brat. He wants in you what he has in himself: humility, gratitude, contentment, satisfaction, patience. So, the Lord adjusts your attitude.
Body – 1 Cor 6:19-20; 1 Cor 9:22-27 – your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and it is not yours anymore. You have been bought with a price and now the Lord owns your body. Yield your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Eyes – Matt 6:22-23 – you came to the Lord with an evil eye [Mk 7:21-23] and now he needs to make in you a single eye so that your whole body will be full of light. Since Jesus is the light of the world, it stands to reason that we should be full of light.
Mouth – Eph 5:4; Eph 4:25; Eph 4:29; Acts 1:8 – the Lord wants to clean up your mouth, change the foolish talking [Ecc 5:3], and then put his words in there so that you will witness for him.
Conclusion: you get the idea. Jesus wants all of you and he wants you to yield to his work so that he can conform you to his image at his pace and in his way. He will arrange the circumstances and the opportunities in your life to perfect the timing of each change he wants to make.
