Continue Jn. 8:31 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
There are some things stated in the Bible in which we must continue no matter the circumstances of life. These need to be constant and consistent in our lives.
Continue in the word of God – Jn 8:31 – no matter what, you must stay in the word of God. You cannot put your Bible down for a day. One day becomes two and two days become three and three days become four and four days become a lifetime. According to 2 Cor 4:16 our inward man is renewed day by day. Our spiritual bread [Matt 4:4] is daily bread. James Hoffmeister said, “It’s not our grasp of the Bible but the Bible’s grasp of us that matters.”
Continue in the love of God – Jn 15:9 – no matter what, you must continue in the love of God. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus [Rom 8:35-39]. So don’t let anything come between you and him. You can love a mate more than the Lord and he or she will separate you from the love of God. Your love for your children, your job, your hobby, your entertainment, yourself, etc. can get between you and your love of God. Love God first and foremost [Matt 22:37; Rev 2:4] and everything else will fall into its right place.
Continue in the grace of God – Acts 13:43 – no matter what, you must continue in the grace of God. Everything we do in our spiritual lives flows from the grace of God. We are saved by grace [Eph 2:8-9]. We are strengthened by grace [2 Cor 12:9-10]. We labor through the grace of God [1 Cor 15:10]. We can’t do anything worth doing apart from the grace of God.
Continue in the faith of God – Acts 14:22 – no matter what, you must continue in the faith of God. God can do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. But we must trust him. The more you believe the Bible the stronger your faith will be [Rom 10:17]. The more that you trust God through trials the stronger your faith will be [1 Pet 1:7]. The Lord will lead you into situations where he can strengthen your faith [Matt 14:27-33]. But as you can tell, sight, fear and doubt are the great opponents of faith. You can’t give into those. Also, the love of money will greatly obscure your faith [1 Tim 6:10].
Continue in the lessons of God – 2 Tim 3:14 – no matter what, you must continue in the lessons of God. As you live your eternal life, God will teach you things all along the way. Don’t forget these lessons because you will need them down the road to guide you and to teach others. The more you hang around godly, wise men, the more you will pick up from them, like Timothy picked up things from Paul. Their lessons will be profound guides for your life. God gave them to you to live by. So, continue in them.
Conclusion: if you will continue in these five things, you will be amazed how much God will bless the work he is doing in you and through you for his glory and the benefit of his saints.
