Cursed is the Ground Gen. 3:17 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

In Gen 3:17 God said cursed is the ground as a result of Adam’s disobedience.  According to Rom 8:19-22 even the creatures are in the bondage of corruption. The whole creation groans and travails in pain.  Everything dies or is already dead.  Death reigns [Rom 5:12-14].  And it will continue to reign until it is destroyed.  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death [1 Cor 15:26].

This earth has been flooded twice. Gen 1:2 shows the results of the first flood [the heavens and the earth that are now are different than the heavens and the earth that were of old, 2 Pet 3:4-7].  And then there was Noah’s flood.  There have been two great world-wide catastrophes.  And then it is all going to be destroyed by fire after the white throne judgment.

Everything is adversely affected by iniquity.  On top of that there is the devil whose iniquity further affects things down here.  Yet, in spite of all of this it is …

Amazing how God can take a cursed earth and make it so beautiful.  Flying home from Seattle we beheld the spectacle of Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood.  We took up skiing in the mountains and beheld their beauty.  God will bring all these mountains low in the millennial reign of Jesus.  Haven’t you beheld the beautiful sunsets over the ocean or a bay?  The water that fills them is the result of the water under the firmament [called Seas] after the first world-wide flood.  Jesus has so much power over even the inorganic material of earth that he is “able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham,” [Matt 3:9].

When Jesus returns these old mountains are going to sing.  Is 55:12 says, “the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing.”

Now all this applies to you in this regard. What God has done to beautify this old earth he can do to beautify your life.  He can do the same thing with your life after you have messed it up in sin.  You will still show the scars like the canyons in the earth but they can be made a thing of beauty after the Lord gets through with them.  They will be a reminder from where you have come but not a determinant of who you are.  In the hands of the Lord you are a new creature in Christ.  Old things are passed away; all things are become new.

Now to let the Lord do this in your life:

You need to quit trying to beautify ugly sin.

You need to yield to God’s hands – he can mold you beautifully.

You need to realize that the molding process might be painful (even catastrophic).

You need to remember that this is for God’s pleasure [Rev 4:11] – the world may not appreciate the beauty; but he will.

Conclusion: Don’t despair over the sin of your past.  Yield your life to the Lord Jesus Christ after you get saved and let him take the vessel he now owns and fashion according to his liking.
