This is quite a list. Our lesson is below.
Regeneration
Man was made as a tri-part being in the image of God:
Gen 1:26– let us make man in our image [1 Jn 5:7]
Gen 2:7 – dust of the ground [body] the breath of life [spirit] living soul [soul]
Therefore, we have a spirit, soul and body [1 Thes 5:23]
Because of Adam’s sin, our spirits are dead before we are saved:
Adam died the day that he ate the fruit [Gen 2:17]
His death was spiritual since he didn’t die physically till he was 930 years old [Gen 5:5]
Likewise, our souls and bodies are alive [Matt 10:28]
But spiritually, before salvation, we are dead [Rom 7:9, Eph 2:1, Lk 9:60]
Therefore, to have the life of salvation, we must be born again by the Spirit:
Jn 3:3-7 – that which is born of the Spirit is spirit [Titus 3:5]
Baptism
Upon being born again, we are baptized by the Spirit into the body of Jesus Christ:
1 Cor 12:13– by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body [1 Cor 12:12-27]
Rom 6:3-5 – we were baptized into Jesus Christ
Eph 5:30-32 – we are members of his flesh and his bones
Eph 2:6 – since he is seated at the right hand of God, so are we
Spiritual Circumcision
Simultaneous with our baptism, the Spirit circumcises the flesh from our soul:
Col 2:11-12 – circumcision without hands in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh
Rom 6:6-12 – this separation doctrinally pronounces the flesh dead
Rom 7:1-4 – thus allowing the soul to be joined to Christ as in marriage
Indwelling/Filling
The Holy Spirit takes up residence inside of you:
Acts 4:8 – The Holy Spirit is a Ghost [A ghost is a spirit without a body]
Jn 14:16-17 – so the Spirit indwells you and you become his body [1 Cor 6:19-20]
Eph 5:18– his desire is to fill you [Acts 4:31] – this is NOT you getting more of the Spirit, BUT the Spirit getting more of you!
Rom 8:14– he leads; you follow – the resident should be the president [Jn 16:13]
Fruit/Gifts
The Spirit will work to develop the character and ministry of Christ in you:
Gal 5:22-23 – the character of Christ will be seen in the fruit of the Spirit
1 Cor 12:4-11, Rom 12:6-8 – the ministry of Christ will be done by the gifts of the Spirit
