Discretion for Fair Woman Prov. 11:22 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
A fair woman who has discretion will be: wise, self-controlled, knowing correct and appropriate behavior, able to make the right judgments when alone [in other words, without her parents or pastor around].
If she doesn’t have discretion then she is like a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout – the jewel is the fair woman and the swine’s snout is the indiscretion – the jewel is in the wrong place as she will be in the wrong place without discretion – gold no more belongs on a pig’s nose than a beautiful woman does in places she will end up without discretion.
This is a tough message for the women of our age because so many of them are without discretion – so we are going to give you words of God to give you discretion – but this could be like leading a horse to water – you won’t have the discretion unless you choose to follow what the Lord says.
Discretion for Fair Women comes from:
Submission – 1 Pet 3:1; Eph 5:22 learn this as a child by submitting to Mom & Dad and God – the word “obey” is still in the traditional wedding vows.
Modesty – 1 Pet 3:3-4; Tit 2:4-5; 1 Tim 2:9-10 this is where it is tough on the girls today – fashion movies, television, magazines, advertisements, school, etc convince young ladies to dress immodestly.
Fear of God – Prov 31:30 – the fear of God leads to the desire to please him.
Holiness – 1 Cor 7:34 – holiness in spirit and body – your body is the temple of Spirit God – music, books, movies, etc drive out holiness.
Humility – 1 Pet 3:2, 4 she needs chaste conversation and a meek and quiet spirit – not contentious Prov 27:15 not a “nag”
Propriety – 1 Cor 7:1 avoidance of physical contact until married.
