Displeasing to God, Col 1:10

Displeasing to God

Unto All Pleasing Col 1: 10 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

Paul’s prayer for the Colossians included this, “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing”.  He said, all pleasing.  There’s no doubt that you want to please the Lord.  And there is a great probability that some of the things you do ARE pleasing to the Lord.  But Paul said, “unto all pleasing”.  In order to be all pleasing, then you must stop doing things that are displeasing to God. And so we are going to talk about some key areas in your life you must address.

We Can’t Be All Pleasing While:

Trying To Please Ourselves

Rom 15:1 – people that must have their own way cannot please God.  You please God when you go his way.  The Lord said of his own Son, “in whom I am well pleased”.  And Jesus said “I do always those things that please him”.  He knew that he was pleasing his Father at all times. Trying to please yourself is displeasing to God.

Trying To Impress Others

You cannot please God if you are trying to impress others.  The Pharisees always lived their lives trying to impress others [Matt 6:1-5].  And they disgusted the Lord.  If you do anything that you do to impress another person then you can be absolutely certain that you are not pleasing the Lord.  You must be very honest with yourself and God about this particular problem.

Refusing To Sacrifice

God was pleased with the sacrifice of Jesus [Is 53:10].  Paul said about our spiritual sacrifices, “for with such sacrifices is God well pleased,” [Heb 13:15-16].  If you are still struggling with whether or not to tithe, you are a long way from sacrificing for him and pleasing him.  Jesus Christ willingly sacrificed his life for us.  And we are to present our bodies a living sacrifice to the Lord.

Murmuring And Complaining

1 Cor 10:10 – just look back to the wilderness journey.  God can’t stand whiners.  He gives you his power so that you can get through everything in this life with joy [Col 1:11; 1:24].  Look what happened to the Jews in Deut 28:47-48.  God allowed their enemies to rule them because they wouldn’t serve the Lord with joy and gladness. Murmuring and complaining are certainly displeasing to the Lord.

Walking By Sight

2 Cor 5:7, We must live by faith if we are going to please God [Heb 11:6]  Without faith it is impossible to please him.  We are to walk by faith and not by sight.  You can tell whether you are walking by sight if you still worry.  Quit your worrying.

Conclusion Unto All Pleasing

If you really want to please the Lord then deal with these five areas in your life that are displeasing to the Lord, if you are still having trouble with them.
