In Ezek 33:21-33 learns that Jerusalem has been broken up from a man who escaped.  Ezekiel’s mouth opens and he gives prophecies concerting Jerusalem, Judah, and the Jews who still remain there.

Jerusalem is broken up after the siege

21 in the twelfth year of our captivity, 2 Ki 24:8-16; 2 Ki 25:2-4.  He went into captivity with Jehoiachin.  And this is the year that the city was broken up after being besieged. The person who escaped reported “The city is smitten”.

The Lord Opens Ezekiel’s mouth 

22 the Lord opened his mouth the evening before the person came from Jerusalem.  In Ezek 3:26-27 Ezekiel was made dumb, except for Thus saith the Lord.  However, he was told in Ezek 24:24-27 that when the person escapes to tell you of the fall of Jerusalem, then your mouth will be opened. So, he already knows the city has fallen since he’s no longer dumb.

Ezekiel prophesies that the remaining Jews won’t possess the land

23 then the word of the Lord came to him.

24 the people who are still in “those wastes of the land of Israel” say, “the land is given us for inheritance”.  They believe this based on promise to Abraham Gen 12:7, to Isaac Gen 26:3-5, to Jacob Gen 28:13-14, and the twelve tribes Deut 1:7-8.  But their occupation of the land was conditional, Deut 28:15, 21-22, 25-26, 32-37, 41, 49, 52, 62-65.  And they didn’t keep the conditions.

25 say to them, and he tells them their sinful condition.  Ye eat with the blood, Lev 17:10-11.  Ye lift up your eyes toward your idols, Lev 26:1.  Ye shed blood, Gen 9:6, Num 35:33-34.  And shall ye possess the land?  Of course, not.

26 Ye stand upon your sword, to stand upon is to value.  They were counting on their sword and not the Lord to protect them from the enemy.  But see Deut 28:25, Lev 26:17, 37.  Ye work abomination, Lev 18:25-28. Ye defile your neighbors wife, Lev 18:20.

And shall ye possess the land?  Of course, not.

Ezekiel prophesies that the land will be desolate

27 say as I live, they that are in the wastes (the ones who stayed in Israel, v.24) shall fall by the sword.  The ones in the open field I’ll give to the beasts.  The ones in the forts and caves shall die of pestilence.

28 I’ll lay the land desolate, Lev 26:33-34 (to enjoy her sabbaths) and the pomp of your strength shall cease.  The mountains of Israel shall be desolate (that’s where they offered sacrifices to idols).

29 they’ll know that I am the Lord, Deut 28:58-59 THE LORD THY GOD.  Everything is desolate because of their abominations.

Ezekiel prophesies to people who disregard God’s words

30 the people talking against thee.  Come hear the word of the Lord.

31 they come and they sit as my people.  They hear thy words but they won’t do them. Their mouth shows much love, but they go after their covetousness, Ps 78:35-37, Is 29:13.

32 you’re like a lovely song of one with a pleasant voice who plays well on an instrument.  They hear thy words and won’t do them.  They are like John the Baptist and Herod, Mk 6:20.

33 when this cometh (lo, it will come), they shall know a prophet has been among them, Deut 18:21-22, Jer 28:9.  That’s because his words are fulfilled.
