Part One
Now that we are beginning a new year, Thought was given to what goal should you have to help you out this year. Number One would have to be Consistent attention and improvement to your fellowship with God. Your finances would work just fine as number two. So, we will look at what the Bible says about finances. I know how personal you and your money are, so this is not I, but what God thinks about how you treat it.
Financial Myths
- Myth: Debt is a tool and should be used to create prosperity.
- Myth: Cash advance, payday loans, rent-to-own, title pawning and tote-the-note car lots are needed to help lower income people get ahead.
- Myth: I don’t have time to work on a retirement plan, budget, or estate planning.
- Myth: Playing the lotto and other forms of gambling will make you rich.
- Myth: Debt consolidation saves interest, and you have only one payment.
- Myth: Everything will be fine when I retire. I know I’m not saving yet, but it will be alright.
- Myth: I can get rich quick if I join this group, buy a tape set and work three hours a week.
- Myth: Car payments are a way of life. You will always have one.
- Myth: Leasing a car is what sophisticated people do. You should lease things that go down in value and take the tax advantage.
- Myth: You can get a good deal on a new car at 0% interest.
- Myth: You should get a credit card to build your credit.
Why You are in Financial Distress
Foolishness
Pro 21:20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
Inattention
Pro 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
Discontentment
1Ti 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
1Ti 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
1Ti 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Ti 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
1Ti 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
1Ti 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
God Is Interested in How You Secure Your Money
God is the Source of Your Money
Deu 8:18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
Ps. 24:1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Everything is His!!!
1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
1Co 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. He owns you!!!
Refuse to Make Money Your God
Job 31:24 If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;
Job 31:25 If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;
Job 31:28 This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.
Realize that Money Does Not Satisfy
Pro 15:16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
Pro 15:17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

Resort to Work to Supply Your Needs
Pro 13:11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
Pro 15:27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
Pro 28:20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
2Thes.3:7-12 Paul says if you don’t work, you don’t eat! He evens commands them not to feed these folks.

God Is Interested in How You Save Your Money
Pro 13:22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Pro 21:20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.

Excuses:
- Ages 25-30: I can’t save now. I’m just getting started, and my income is low.
- Ages 30-40: I can’t save now. I have a young family to raise.
- Ages 40-50: I can’t save now. I have two children in college.
- Ages 50-60: I can’t save now. My wife and I want to enjoy life.
- Ages 60-65: I can’t save enough between now and retirement to make much difference.
- Ages 65 and Over: I can’t save I’m living with my son and his wife.

Care for Your Family
1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
Avoid Debt
Pro 22:7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
Be Charitable
Eph. 4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
God Is Interested in How You Share Your Money
Pro 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
Pro 3:10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
Pro 11:24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
Pro 11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
Mal 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
