Foot washing is not set down as an ordinance for the church, although a small number of churches have made it such. It is given as merely an example of serving others. The ordinances given are the Lord’s Supper and believer’s baptism following salvation. Jesus performed the washing of the disciples’ feet as an example to the disciples of service to one another. But what was foot washing an example of?

Foot washing was an example of:

Hospitality (Gen. 43:24, Luke 7:44, 1 Tim. 5:10)

Humility (John 13:3, Matt. 20:21, 20:25-28, Mark 9:35, 2 Cor. 4:5, Gal. 1:10, Eph. 6:6)

Love (John 13:1, Gal. 5:13-14, John 15:12-13)

Long Suffering (John 13:2, 13:8-10, Acts 13:13, 2 Tim. 4:10, 4:14-15, 3 John 9-11, John 13:14-15, 13:17, Phil. 4:9)
