A Fresh Start 2 Cor. 5: 17 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
So much of the time, the reason that we get depressed or get stuck is that we can’t let go of the past. We are living “butt first,” always turned around, walking backwards, regretting the past, unaware of what’s coming next and getting ready to make another regrettable mess. You don’t have to live like this. According to 2 Cor 5:17 you get to make a fresh start. Just look carefully at this text and realize what you have.
You can make a fresh start because:
You are in Christ – Eph 1:1-12; Eph 5:30-32; 1 Cor 12:13 – Realize that when you get saved you are baptized by the Spirit of God into the body of Christ and you are now “in” Him. In Christ you are no longer stuck in yourself and in your old problems. You have spiritual blessings in heavenly places, you are holy and without blame before him in love, you are ACCEPTED in the beloved, you have redemption through his blood, you have purpose in his will, and you have obtained an inheritance, just to name a few.
You are a new creature – Col 2:10-13 – You are not who you were before you were saved; you are a completely new creature in Christ. You are the current possessor of eternal life. But you have been concentrating all of your attention on your earthly life and so you have been neglecting what is going on with your eternal life. Don’t you realize that when you die, only your physical life stops, temporarily; your eternal life continues without missing a beat. Then one day your body is raptured as a glorified body and you just continue right on in your eternal life. Start living each day of your eternal life from now on.
Your old things are passed away – Rom 6:3 – Whatever you have done before makes no difference to God; all of that stuff is now washed away in the blood of Jesus [Is 1:18; Heb 9:14; 1 Jn 1 :9].
ALL things are become new – Rom 6:4 – You get to walk in the newness of life with a fresh start. Everything in life is in front of you. Everything about the revelation of God’s will in your life is new today.
Conclusion: So, if you have not trusted Christ, trust him now. Once you have trusted him, settle it in your heart and mind that you are now IN him. Then begin to grow as the new creature you are. Never look back another day in your life; let the past go. And turn around and face the day you are in because for you it is a BRAND NEWDAY. Make a fresh start; begin today.
