There is a pattern in the Bible that sheds light on the future of nations in the world. God gives people and nations time to repent until their wickedness is full, and then he destroys them, when there is no more hope for their repentance. Notice:
The world in Noah’s day. Gen 6:11 “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence”. God completely destroyed the world by the flood. Yet, Noah and his family escaped.
The inhabitants of Canaan. Gen 15:16 “the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full”. Yet, when the Jews returned to Canaan, the land was full of uncleanness. Ezra 9:11 “which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness”. God used Israel to completely destroy the inhabitants of Canaan after the Exodus. Yet, people like Rahab escaped his judgment.
The Jews in Judah. Lev 19:29 “lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness”. 2 Chr 33:9 “Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the Lord had destroyed before the children of Israel”. Jer 23:10 “the land is full of adulterers”. Ezek 7:23, 9:9 “land… full of bloody crimes, city… full of violence, land… full of blood, city… full of perverseness”. 2 Ki 24:3-4 “Surely at the commandment of the Lord came this upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did; and also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the Lord would not pardon”. Judah and Jerusalem were completely destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar. Yet, people like Daniel escaped.
The nation of Israel in Jesus’s day. Matt 23:28 the Pharisees were “outwardly righteous, within full of hypocrisy and iniquity”. Lk 11:39 “inward part full of ravening and wickedness”. Once again, Jerusalem was completely destroyed by Titus in 70 AD. Yet, Pharisees like Nicodemus escaped.
The Gentile nations in the Tribulation. Dan 8:23 “when the transgressors are come to the full”. Matt 24:12 iniquity abounds. Rev 14:18 “for her grapes are fully ripe”. Rev 15:1 “seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God”. Rev 18:6 “Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double”. Nations are completely destroyed by Jesus at his 2nd Advent. And yet Israel is saved in Rom 11:25 when “the fulness of the Gentiles be come in”. At some point this country will face the judgment of God because it is nearly full of wickedness. Yet, saved souls will escape.
The sons of men in general. Ecc 9:3 “the heart of the sons of men is full of evil”. And when they do not like to retain God in their knowledge, God turns them over to a reprobate mind. Then, they are “filled with all”… sins, Rom 1:29-31. The only thing left is destruction. Yet, Prov 27:20 “hell and destruction are never full”.
But for us God made a remedy in Jesus Christ. Gal 4:4 “but when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law”. Eph 1:10 “in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ”.
We must preach the gospel to those living in this wicked world so they can escape the coming judgment of God like others have escaped in the past. We can give them the gospel, but we can’t fix the country. From what we see in this Biblical pattern, it appears that our country is too far gone.
