Full of Grace and Truth
John 1:14-17 full of grace and truth
Introduction: To be full means that you can’t put anymore of anything into something. When you fill up a glass of water, you cannot put any more water into it or else it will spill over. If you have a glass of coffee, soda, tea, etc. You can be full of anger, bitterness, deceit, joy, happiness, etc, and that’s what will come out.
Luke 6:45 “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh”.
The Lord Jesus Christ was FULL of grace and truth. It’s nowonder every situation that Jesus dealt with was dealt with so perfectly. Why, because he was full of grace and truth and that is exactly what came out. That is how He dealt with people.
Furthermore, in Vs 16, the Bible says “and of HIS fulness have WE all received”. In other words, it’s possible for you and I to pray that God would empty us of ourselves, and fill us, with grace and truth, just like the Lord Jesus Christ. Why would you want to do that? So that you and I can deal with the situations of life with a fulness of grace and truth.
Let’s take a look at three examples of Jesus Christ exhibiting his fullness of grace and truth.
Jesus Christ was full of grace and truth when He dealt with:
I. The Lost Person– Mark 10:17-22 Many of us have dealt with a lost person, the question is, have you dealt with them like Jesus, full of grace and truth?
▪ Grace– vs 21 “then Jesus beholding him loved him” and told him.
▪ Truth- Vs 21 “sell whatsoever thou hast” Your possessions are going to keep you from having eternal life. You can tell them this story from the bible.
II. The Sinner– John 8:1-11 Many of us have dealt with a person that has committed a sin against God, the question is, have you dealt with them like Jesus, full of grace and truth?
▪ Grace– vs 11 “Neither do I condemn thee”You’ve been forgiven, you won’t get what you deserve.
▪ Truth– vs 11 “go, and sin no more”. We should hate sin, depart from sin, put away sin, etc.
III. The God Denier– John 21:12-17 Many of us have dealt with a Christian that denies the Lord Jesus Christ, the question is, have you dealt with them like Jesus, full of grace and truth?
▪ Grace- vs 12 “come and dine”. Even when a Christian denies God, Jesus Christ still wants to have fellowship with that Christian and dine with him or her.
▪ Truth- After Jesus dealt with Peter with grace, by getting back in fellowship. Jesus asks peter if he loves Him. Peter denied Jesus 3 times so Jesus asks peter 3 times. Jesus wants to know if it’s real, if it’s true. Feed my lambs, sheep, sheep. If the love is real, then serve me, forget about the past, get working for Jesus.
The problem with us: It’s possible to be full of grace and no truth. And it’s also possible to be full of truth, and no grace, both of these are a problem. The perfect balance is being full of bothgrace and truth.
Conclusion: These three examples showed us the grace and truth of the Lord Jesus Christ. However, how does this apply to us. John 1:14 says that Jesus was FULL of grace and truth, Vs 16 says “and of his FULNESS have all we received”. In other words, you and I have received the grace and truth that was in Jesus Christ.
You have the grace of Christ in you according to vs 16. You were once partaker of the grace of God for salvation, and you continue to partake in the grace of God, you definitely know how to extend it to others.
You read your Bible, and you come to Bible Believers Baptist Church, you have the Truth.
The Lord Jesus Christ was full of Grace and Truth, The question is this, are WE full of grace and truth so that we can deal with the situations we have to deal with on a daily basis?
If you’ve noticed that you have a lot of grace, but not a lot of truth, work on that.
If you’ve noticed that you have a lot of truth, but not a lot of grace, work on that.
The balance is to have both, at the same time, for every situation that we deal with, just like the Lord Jesus Christ, full of grace and truth.
