Glorifying God, Part II 1 Cor. 6: 20 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO of Glorifying God Part 2.
1 Cor 6:20 says that we are to “glorify God in our body, and in our spirit, which are God’s”. This is the second in a two part series on how we can glorify God. In this broadcast of glorifying God part 2, we will give you specific Biblical ways to glorify God.
By Praying in a such way that God gets glory when your prayers are answered – John 14:13, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son”. We aren’t praying to just get our prayer answered. Rather, we are praying in such a way that God is glorified. And we don’t limit God to a specific way and a specific time in which he should answer our prayer.
By Bearing Fruit – John 15:8, “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples”. There are several ways for you and I to bear fruit. The Spirit of God in us will bear fruit [Gal 5:22-23], the word of God in us will bear fruit [Lk 8:15], the righteousness of God in us will bear fruit [Phil 1:11], and the divine nature of God in us will bear fruit [2 Pet 1:4-8].
By Good Works – Matt. 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”. See the references in Titus to good works [Titus 2:7, 2:14, 3:1, 3:8, and 3:14]. These works glorify God because those beholding them know that we are incapable of those good works apart from the work of Jesus Christ in us [Jn 15:5].
By Liberal Giving – 2 Cor 9:13, “Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men”. We know from Lk 6:38 that the Lord will use men to give to us when we have a need [measured by our giving to him]. When brethren receive something from us, they glorify God, knowing that he is the one who used us to provide their need [Phil 4:19].
By Congregational Like-mindedness – Rom 15:6, “That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”. The Lord hates discord; and he loves unity and charity. When a congregation is able to praise God with one mind and one mouth, God is glorified. It is evident that this congregation is of one accord because of Jesus Christ and his words.
By Bearing Reproach – 1 Pet 4:14, “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified”. God was glorified when Jesus Christ willingly submitted himself to his accusers and suffered death for our sins [Jn 12:27-28]. When we are, therefore, reproached for the name of Jesus Christ and our faith in him, God is again glorified.
By Suffering as a Christian – 1 Pet 4:16, “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf”. This expands on the point above. Your suffering for Christ may not include reproach. But if you suffer as a Christian, make sure that God gets the glory. Don’t whine, don’t complain, don’t revile; just glorify God.
Conclusion: Now, in this list, there are certainly some areas that you can begin to glorify God. There are also some other areas where you can pray and ask God to help you glorify Him. Frankly, there are enough ways to glorify God to keep us busy for the rest of our lives.
