To the Glory of God 1 Cor 10:31 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
I was listening to the radio on Tuesday and heard Bro. Simmons preaching a message on the glory of God. That was a very good message. It struck me that perhaps so little of what we do is done to the glory of God because we don’t think about what we can do to the glory of God. So, today we are going to continue with his theme and look to see the kinds of things that you can do to the glory of God. After all, our text in 1 Cor 10:31 says, do all to the glory of God. We can do the following to the glory of God:
Eat and drink – 1 Cor 10:31 – in the context, this verse has to do with eating things sacrificed to idols – another person might be offended when they see you eating something if you are aware that it was used in idolatry – for instance, I have no business taking communion in a Catholic church and if you are saved, neither do you – we have no business drinking alcohol – or eating things that cause offense to a person who needs to be saved [1 Cor 10:32-33].
Endure infirmities to the glory of God – Jn 9:1-3; Jn 11:4 – when we find out that we have an infirmity we generally start praying single-mindedly to God to be healed – we should pray for him to be glorified in our infirmity, first and foremost.
Be filled with the fruits of righteousness – Phil 1:11 – we are vessels in which the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ is resident – God wants his righteousness to bring forth visible fruit in our lives to his glory – we must yield to his righteousness that others may see “him” in us to God’s glory.
Thank God for his abundant grace – 2 Cor 4:15; 2 Cor 9:12-14 – God uses others all the time to work in our lives – and when he does we are to thank him for his grace and provision through them – and we are to pray for them that God may be glorified in all things.
Praise God – Ps 86:12-13 – there is an awful lot in this world that is contrary to God – we need to praise him that others may know that our God is good and great and worthy of their acceptance – so much of what happens in our lives is directed specifically by the hand of God and we are so tuned out to his constant direction and protection in our lives [Prov 20:24] – we ought to be praising him continuously particularly when things go wrong – he’d be a lot more desirable to the lost if we would.
Suffer as a Christian – 1 Pet 4:16 – because the world is opposed to God you and I are misfits in the world – as a result we are going to suffer [2 Tim 3:12] – when you take it you glorify God – when you moan and belly-ache, murmur and complain, you don’t.
Die as a martyr – Jn 21:19 – Peter died as a martyr and so did many of the Lord’s disciples – God is glorified in the death of his saints – he was glorified in the death of his Son [Jn 12:28] and he can be glorified in your death, as well [if and when the time comes].
Confess that Jesus Christ is Lord – Phil 2:11 – the time to confess him is now [1 Cor 12:3; Rom 10:9-10] and be saved – but if you don’t confess him now you will later, right before you wind up in hell. Glorify God by confessing Jesus Christ and by receiving him as you Saviour!!
