God Gives Us Power
In Rev 11, the two witnesses prophesy for 42 months. These are Moses and Elijah. They were powerful preachers and bold, faithful men. Yet, in Rev 11:3, God said, “I will give power unto my two witnesses”. They would have no power to prophesy and do the miracles they will do without his power.
Think about this. Moses and Elijah are able to do what they do because God gives them power. Though they are the two anointed ones that stand by the Lord, Zech 4:14, and they saw the Lord on Mt Sinai, and one was taken to heaven by Michael after he died and the other was taken to heaven in a whirlwind, God has to give them power. And he can because…
Jesus said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth”, Matt 28:18. You say, but what about the higher powers? They get their power from God. Rom 13:1, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God”.
Pilate said to Jesus, “knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee”? Jn 19:10. Jesus answered, “Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above”, Jn 19:11.
As the Lord gives the witnesses and powers that be power, so God gives us power. He has all the power you need. And you and I need his power.
God gives us power to get saved, Rom 1:16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.
Jesus has the power:
- To forgive our sins, Matt 9:6
- To give us eternal life, Jn 17:2
- To make us the sons of God, Jn 1:12.
God gives us power against the devil. When the Lord saves us, he turns us from the power of Satan unto God, Acts 26:18.
- Our adversary has the power of death, Heb. 2:14
- And the grave has power to hold you, Ps 49:15
- The devil gives his power to the beast in Rev 13:2
- He gives the false prophet power to do miracles in Rev 13:14
- And that Wicked comes with the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 2 Thes 2:9.
BUT greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world, 1 Jn 4:4. We are are more than conquerors through him who loved us, Rom 8:37.
God gives us power to do what he has given us to do.
Jesus had the power to heal anyone of anything, Matt 9:8. And he gave this power to his disciples, Matt 10:1, to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out devils. They were able to do what he did.
God gives us power to witness, Acts 1:8. In Acts 4:33, “with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus”. They did this with the Spirit’s power. And we can, too.
Paul’s preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and power, 1 Cor 2:4. He said, in Eph 3:7, “I was made a minister according to the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power”.
And we can do what we have been given to do with his power. Eph 3:20 “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”. “Be strong in the Lord, and the power of his might”, Eph 6:10. “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”, 2 Tim 1:7.
God has given to each of us a function to perform and you and I can perform it according to the grace of God given unto us by the effectual working of his power.
