God Will Fight Your Battles

God Will Fight Your Battles

Introduction: One of the most encouraging and comforting principles found in the Bible is the principle of God fighting our battles. Throughout the Old Testament, we find God, literally fighting the battles of his children. In like manner, from the time we awake, to the time we go to bed, we are going through battles in this life, maybe spiritual battles or maybe physical battles. (Medical battle, legal battle, relationship battle, financial battle, attitude battle, addiction battle, failure battle, etc.). Aren’t you glad to know that God will fight YOUR battles too. So, because God fights your battles, here are three things that we should be reminded of and assured of this evening.

Because God Fights your Battles:

I. You don’t have to Fear- In Numbers 13, Moses sent men to spy out the land of Canaan and bring back a report VS 17-19. Moses specifically asked them to “see the land, what it is, and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many”. In verse 25 “they returned from searching the land.” In VS 28 “the people be strong” “the cities are walled” “there we saw the giants”, they haven’t even started the battle and they’re already afraid.

• Numbers 14:1-9 Joshua and Caleb said- “Fear them not”. Why? “the Lord is with us”. Caleb and Joshua didn’t fear, they followed God fully.

• Psalm 27:1-5 David said- “of whom shall I be afraid” “my heart shall not fear”.

• II Timothy 1:7 Paul said- “For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

• One of the first things that happens when we sense our lives getting into a battle is fear. We have to realize this is not our battle to fight, it’s God’s battle to fight. God can fight whatever battle, way better than we ever can.

Joshua and Caleb didn’t fear before or during the battles that they were going through because they realized that God was fighting their battles. You are going through battle too, don’t fear those battles, God is fighting them for you.

II. You don’t have to Fight- Exodus 14:13-30 “The LORD shall fight for you”. Right in the middle of the battle, after fleeing from Egypt, and getting to the Red Sea, the children of Israel are reminded that God is the one that fights their battles.

• Contrary to human instinct, God wants complete reliance on Him during your battles. God can fight and defeat the enemy much better than we could ever think or imagine. Because of it, don’t fight your own battles, let Him fight them for you.

• The Children of Israel didn’t have to do anything, just watch God at work. They didn’t need to fight back, yell, scream, or worry.

• They got to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, the great work that the LORD did upon the Egyptians.

• Vs 25 “for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians”.

• In the Christian life you will go through battles, but you don’t have to fight them alone, God will fight for you.

III. You don’t have to Fret- Joshua 1:1-9 (Worry, Nervous, Agonize, or be Troubled). Because God is our help in time of trouble, and during our battles, you don’t have to fret. We know that God is already fighting our battles. If your familiar with what happens next, the battles continued for the possession of the land of Cannan, the promised land.

– The Battle of Jericho Ch 6, Battle of Ai Ch 8, Hitites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, Jebusites Ch 9. From Lachish then went to Eglon, then to Hebron, then to Debir, then to Hazor. However, through the battles, God tells them don’t fret because:

– Vs 3 “that have I given unto you”. God had already given them the land, the battles ahead were already won. In other words, don’t fret, you have victory over those battles.

– Vs 5 “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life”. The people ahead were already out of the way. In other words, don’t fret, you have victory over the people in the battles.

– Vs 5 “I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee”. God would continue to be with them during the battles. In other words, don’t fret, you have me as your almighty and all-powerful God. Don’t forget that.

– Vs 9 “for the LORD thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest”. In other words, don’t fret, don’t be afraid or dismayed during your battles, I’m with You every step of the way.

In the Christian life you will go through battles, but you don’t have to Fret. God is a very present help in time of need. He is in complete control of the situation.

Conclusion: Many of the passage we saw dealt with God fighting physical battles and taking care of his children. So, what does that mean for us today? This principle is true even today, in our own lives.

The battles that we face in life are not our battles to fight so don’t Fear, those battles are impossible to defeat unless God does it, so don’t Fight, and it doesn’t do you any good to worry and be troubled during your battles so don’t Fret.

God is everything you need in the midst of your battles, ask him to help you today.
